mousseline

ENG — One seven eight zero: 1780. That was the year in which muslin entered the ranks of sought-after fabrics, thanks to the fondness Marie Antoinette of France had for it. An ultra-fine, lightweight, ethereal fabric, “mousseline” reduces the weight of a garment, while maintaining its sumptuousness. Impalpable dresses flutter in prestigious Parisian salons; ladies, like clouds in the desert sky, float by in unreachable elegance. Muslin, a curious term with shades of the Orient, apparently owes its name to the place name Mossul, in present-day Iraq, what was once Mesopotamia. Thousands of years of history and ancient luxury intertwine with contemporary design for a brand new creation from SUPERLEGGERO.
